York County, SC (July 25, 2026) – A person was killed after a series of crashes on southbound Interstate 77 near the 73-mile marker in York County on Thursday night, July 23. The crash happened around 9:52 p.m.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a 2013 Volkswagen sedan was traveling south on Interstate 77 when it ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a ditch, and became disabled. Troopers said the driver exited the vehicle and was standing in the roadway when a 2018 Volvo tractor-trailer struck both the person and the disabled sedan.
The pedestrian died at the scene. No other injuries were immediately reported. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The incident remains under review by authorities.
