Herndon, VA (July 25, 2026) – A 9-year-old boy died after an electric scooter crash involving a minivan on Madden Ct near Highland Mews in the Herndon area on Thursday afternoon, July 23. The child was taken to a hospital after the crash, where he later died.
According to Fairfax County police, preliminary evidence indicates the boy was riding an electric scooter when it struck the rear passenger side of a minivan as the vehicle entered the townhouse community. The adult female driver remained at the scene.
Investigators said the driver appeared to be operating the minivan safely and found no indication of reckless or unsafe driving at this stage of the investigation. No charges have been filed. The Crash Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
