Knoxville, TN (July 19, 2026) – Two people died, and one woman was injured after a head-on crash involving a fleeing driver and an SUV on Maynardville Pike in Knox County on Friday evening, July 17.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Devin M. King, 30, was driving a 1994 Jeep Laredo while fleeing law enforcement around 5:17 p.m. when he crossed into the oncoming lane and struck a 2007 Ford Expedition head-on. The preliminary report stated that the Ford swerved toward the shoulder but could not avoid the crash.
King died from his injuries after the collision. Janine L. Swenson, 58, who was driving the Ford, was injured, while her passenger, Theresa G. Black, 24, died in the crash. The incident remains under review by authorities. Our condolences go out to the loved ones of Theresa G. Black.
