Deadwood, SD (January 31, 2026) – Emergency crews responded to a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 85 near Deadwood. The incident occurred at approximately 11:57 a.m. and involved two passenger vehicles and a road grader, according to a statement from the Deadwood Volunteer Fire Department.
Truck 4, which was operating nearby, arrived on the scene within two minutes of the page. First arriving firefighters assisted with assessing those involved for injuries. Additional units, including Engine 1 and Rescue 3, arrived shortly after to support with traffic control and safety measures.
Emergency responders from Deadwood Fire Rescue provided care to the injured, and one patient was transported to Monument Health for treatment. Officials described the injuries as minor.
The crash temporarily impacted travel along Highway 85 as crews worked to manage the scene. Contributing factors to the collision have not yet been made public, and the incident remains under review.
Multiple agencies assisted in the response, including the Deadwood Police Department, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Commission on Gaming, South Dakota Highway Patrol, and Monument Health Ambulance.
