What Happens in Wrong-Way Crashes on Highways?
Wrong-way crashes often involve vehicles traveling in opposite directions, which can lead to severe impacts. Head-on or near head-on collisions tend to result in greater force compared to other types of crashes.
Highway conditions can increase the risk in these situations. Vehicles typically travel at higher speeds, leaving little time for drivers to react when they encounter a vehicle coming toward them.
Multiple vehicles may become involved if traffic is unable to stop or avoid the initial collision. Visibility, roadway layout, and driver awareness can all influence how these incidents unfold and how severe the outcomes may be.
