Why Pedestrian Crashes on Highways Are Especially Dangerous
Pedestrian crashes on highways often result in severe outcomes due to the higher speeds of passing vehicles. Interstate routes are designed mainly for vehicle travel, and pedestrians are rarely expected in these areas.
When someone is on a highway, drivers may have limited time to react. Reduced nighttime lighting and fast-moving traffic can further increase the risk of a collision.
After such incidents, factors such as vehicle speed, visibility, and the pedestrian’s location are often examined. Roadway lighting, shoulder space, and nearby entry or exit ramps may also provide helpful context.
These details can help explain how a pedestrian ended up on the roadway and how the crash unfolded.
