What Drivers Should Know About Highway Work Zone Crashes
Crashes in highway work areas can happen when drivers do not notice stopped vehicles, changing traffic patterns, or roadside activity. Large trucks require more time and distance to slow down, which can increase the risk of serious impacts when traffic conditions change suddenly.
Investigators reviewing these crashes examine vehicle speeds, roadway signs, traffic controls, and the positions of vehicles before impact. They may also review road conditions, visibility, and available footage from nearby areas. Work zone safety depends on drivers remaining alert, reducing speed when required, and watching for vehicles or workers near active road projects.
