Des Moines, IA (January 14, 2026) – A 67-year-old woman tragically died Monday night after being struck by a vehicle in the Sheridan Gardens neighborhood of Des Moines. The crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Hubbell Ave and Douglas Ave.
Des Moines Police and Fire Department personnel responded after 911 callers reported a pedestrian had been hit. Upon arrival, first responders found the woman critically injured and began lifesaving measures at the scene. She was transported to UnityPoint Methodist Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.
Investigators say a 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by an adult male, was traveling southwest on Hubbell Ave and passed through the East Douglas Ave intersection on a green light before striking the pedestrian. Authorities noted that the woman was approximately 90 feet southwest of the crosswalk when she was hit.
At this time, Des Moines police say they have found no signs of impairment or recklessness on the part of the driver. The crash remains under active investigation.
