Des Moines, IA (January 12, 2026) – A traffic accident near the intersection of E 16th St and E Grand Ave on Sunday afternoon left at least one person injured and raised concerns of a gas line strike, according to dispatch reports.
The incident occurred around 1:33 p.m., prompting a dual response from fire and medic units. Upon arrival, crews assessed the crash scene where one individual was reportedly hurt. Initial information also suggested the possibility that a gas line may have been impacted during the collision, triggering added precautions by emergency personnel.
Simultaneously, responders were handling a separate medical emergency involving a 75-year-old woman experiencing chest pain near SE 14th St. She was conscious but not fully alert when help arrived.
Both situations were actively managed by Des Moines emergency services throughout the afternoon.
