Why Collisions With Parked Vehicles Can Be Deadly
Crashes involving moving vehicles striking parked vehicles can be severe because occupants of the moving vehicle often absorb the full force of the impact. Even low-speed collisions can cause serious injury if occupants are unrestrained or if the collision occurs at higher speeds.
The position of parked vehicles, roadway conditions, and vehicle speed all influence the severity of the crash. Investigators examine evidence such as skid marks, vehicle damage, and roadway conditions to determine how the collision occurred and why it resulted in fatalities.
Emergency response is critical in these cases to treat injured victims and secure the area for safety.
