DETROIT, Wayne County, Mich., Nov. 1, 2026 — A juvenile passenger died after a three-vehicle crash on the westbound Davison Freeway near I-75 late Saturday night, October 31, according to Michigan State Police. The driver suspected of causing the crash was arrested on a charge of operating while intoxicated causing death.
Troopers were called to the scene around 11:45 p.m., Michigan State Police said. A preliminary investigation found all three vehicles were traveling west when a sedan rear-ended another vehicle, then lost control and struck a third vehicle.
Six people were riding in the sedan at the time. A juvenile occupant was ejected and taken to a hospital, where the juvenile was pronounced dead. The other five occupants of that vehicle suffered injuries ranging from minor to critical and were taken to area hospitals. The driver accused of causing the crash was also hospitalized for injuries suffered in the crash.
The crash remains under review. Our sympathies are with the family of the person who lost their life, and we wish those injured a full recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does speed change the odds of surviving a crash?
Yes. Higher speeds increase the force involved in a collision and reduce the time a driver has to react, which generally makes injuries more severe and survival less likely.
Why do investigators emphasize seat belt use after crashes like this?
Seat belts keep occupants in their seats and reduce the chance of being thrown from the vehicle, which is usually what turns a survivable crash into a fatal one.
What should a family do after a fatal crash involving a loved one?
Families typically should contact the investigating agency for updates, request a copy of the crash report once it's available, and reach out to the county medical examiner's office with questions about the official findings.
How do police investigate a fatal multi-vehicle crash like this one?
Investigators usually examine the scene, review vehicle data and witness accounts, and may conduct toxicology testing on drivers to determine what led to the collision.
