Warren, OH (July 8, 2026) – A driver is facing an OVI charge after a vehicle crashed into a fitness center on Monday night on Elm Road in Warren. Emergency units responded to Planet Fitness shortly before 10 p.m. on July 6, after the vehicle struck the building.
Deputies stated that the driver, identified as Matthew Gilmore, experienced what investigators believed was a drug overdose while operating the vehicle. The car went over a curb, struck the business’s wall, and continued inside, where it hit gym equipment.
Gilmore and a passenger were treated with naloxone before being taken to St. Joseph Warren Hospital. Officials said Gilmore refused a blood test and was charged with OVI and reasonable control. A warrant has been issued for his arrest through the Warren Municipal Court.

How Vehicle Crashes Into Buildings Are Investigated
Crashes involving vehicles entering buildings require a review of both the roadway and the structure involved. Investigators may examine vehicle movement, impact points, damage patterns, and conditions that may have affected the driver’s ability to control the vehicle.
Officials may also review witness accounts, surveillance footage, and physical evidence from the scene. Building damage assessments can help show the direction of travel and force of impact. These details can provide a clearer picture of how the crash happened and what factors may have contributed.
