What Should Drivers Know About Crashes Involving Semi-Trucks?
Crashes involving semi-trucks can produce serious injuries because commercial trucks are substantially larger and heavier than passenger cars. The difference in size can affect the force of an impact and the amount of damage to smaller vehicles.
Highway traffic can also create additional hazards after a collision. A blocked lane, a disabled vehicle, or a sudden slowdown can cause approaching drivers to brake or change lanes quickly. Maintaining space between vehicles can give drivers more time to respond.
The effects of a truck crash can vary based on vehicle speed, impact location, roadway conditions, and the type of vehicles involved. Seat belt use and vehicle safety features can also influence the severity of injuries.
