Monroe Township, NJ (September 5, 2026) – Twelve children and two adults were injured after a school bus crash involving two dump trucks and other vehicles in Monroe Township on Thursday, September 3.
The collision happened on the 700 block of North Tuckahoe Road. Police said five vehicles were involved, including a school bus and two commercial dump trucks. According to preliminary information, a northbound dump truck failed to notice that traffic had stopped for a school bus. The truck rear-ended a vehicle carrying an adult woman and three children.
The impact pushed that vehicle into the school bus, which then struck the rear of another dump truck. A child trapped in the rear seat of one vehicle had to be freed by first responders. Fourteen people were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The school bus was carrying nine children and a driver, all of whom were either released from the hospital or reported to be in stable condition.
The crash remains under investigation as officials continue gathering information. Our thoughts are with everyone injured as they recover.
What to Know About School Bus Crashes
School buses can be involved in chain-reaction crashes when traffic stops suddenly around them. Drivers approaching a stopped school bus should reduce their speed and remain prepared for changing traffic conditions.
Large commercial vehicles require additional space because of their size and weight. Drivers should leave enough following distance to allow time to react when traffic slows or stops.
Rear-end crashes can cause a vehicle to collide with another car or a nearby object. Wearing a seat belt can help protect occupants during these types of collisions.
