St. Johns County, FL (July 4, 2026) – A driver was seriously injured in a commercial vehicle crash on Friday morning on Interstate 95 near International Golf Parkway in St. Johns County, according to an official report.

Emergency units responded to the scene at about 7:30 a.m. on July 3. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of a commercial vehicle was traveling northbound in the right lane when he lost control, entered the center median, and overturned onto a guardrail. The vehicle was carrying dry concrete, which spilled onto the interstate following the crash.

Officials said a northbound Toyota van was struck by tire debris during the incident. The 62-year-old driver of the van was not injured. The 24-year-old Deltona man driving the commercial vehicle was taken to Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville with serious injuries.

Southbound lanes of Interstate 95 in the area were closed for several hours but have since reopened. The identities of those involved have not been released. Authorities are actively investigating the incident.

Our thoughts are with the injured driver as he recovers.

What Factors Are Commonly Reviewed in Commercial Vehicle Crashes?

In commercial vehicle crashes, investigators typically examine speed, cargo load, and driver control before the incident. They also review roadway conditions, lane positioning, and any mechanical issues that may have contributed to the loss of control.

Because commercial vehicles usually carry heavy or shifting loads, officials may assess whether cargo movement played a role in the crash. Physical evidence, such as skid marks, rollover patterns, and guardrail impact points, helps reconstruct how the vehicle left the roadway. These findings, combined with witness reports and roadway data, help determine the sequence of events.
