How Hit-and-Run Accidents Are Commonly Investigated
Hit-and-run cases usually depend on details collected from witnesses, vehicle descriptions, and available video footage. Investigators may review damage patterns, road markings, and vehicle parts left behind to help identify a driver or vehicle connected to a roadway crash.
Public reports can also provide useful information when a driver leaves before their identity is confirmed. The severity of injuries, weather conditions, and traffic patterns may also help explain what happened before and after a collision. These cases can take time to piece together because investigators frequently rely on several sources of information rather than a single detail.
