What Can Contribute to Severe Outcomes in Single-Vehicle Rollovers Involving Teen Drivers?
Single-vehicle rollovers involving young drivers can result in severe harm due to a combination of speed, loss of control, and roadway conditions. When a vehicle leaves its intended path, it may roll over or rotate rapidly, increasing the risk of occupants being thrown from the cabin, especially if seat belts are not used properly.
Impairment from alcohol or drugs can significantly reduce reaction time and decision-making ability, increasing the likelihood of losing control. Inexperience can also contribute, as newer drivers may struggle to correct sudden steering or traction changes.
Road design factors such as curves, narrow shoulders, or uneven pavement can further raise risk levels. In many cases, multiple passengers inside one vehicle can increase injury severity when sudden movement or force is involved.
