Allentown, PA (September 14, 2026) – A woman died after a collision involving her motor scooter and an SUV late on South 4th Street.
The 42-year-old Allentown woman was riding south with two other motor scooter drivers when an SUV struck her from behind near Lexington Street at about 11:35 p.m. on Friday, September 11. The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office said she was pronounced dead at 3:01 a.m. Saturday, September 12, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.
Eliezer Julius Santiago, 22, of Allentown, faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence. Prosecutors said witnesses reported that his SUV had been traveling erratically before the collision.
According to the prosecution, Santiago fled after the collision and was taken into custody nearby after nearly hitting a police vehicle. City and business cameras reportedly captured the entire sequence.
Santiago also faces charges involving driving without a license, reckless driving, careless driving, marijuana possession, drug paraphernalia and obstruction of law administration. He remains held in Lehigh County Jail on $500,000 bail.
Additional charges related to the woman’s death are expected. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday, September 14, at the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office & Forensic Center.
The investigation continues as investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
