Phoenix, AZ (September 11, 2026) – A multi-vehicle collision seriously injured a driver on Wednesday evening, September 9, on southbound Interstate 17 near Indian School Road. The incident happened shortly before 8:30 p.m. when a vehicle with a flat tire stopped in the HOV lane.
Another vehicle struck the disabled car, triggering a chain reaction involving additional vehicles. The driver who caused the initial crash sustained serious injuries and is suspected of impairment. Several other people were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, though the exact number of those hurt was not available.
Southbound lanes remained closed for several hours and reopened shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday, while northbound traffic was not affected. Authorities are still investigating the crash, and additional details will be released as they become available.
