Duplin County, NC (February 21, 2026) – One person was taken to the hospital on Friday afternoon, February 20, after a crash involving two large trucks on US 117 near the 369 exit. The collision happened around 1:30 p.m., according to authorities.
Officials said a semi truck pulling a car hauler was attempting to turn left to head southbound on US 117. At the same time, a log truck was traveling north on the highway. The two vehicles collided during the turn.
The impact caused the log truck to flip over, spilling logs onto the roadway. One person suffered injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. No fatalities were reported.
Traffic in the area was disrupted as crews worked to clear the overturned truck and scattered logs. The driver of the semi truck pulling the car hauler was cited for failure to yield. The incident remains under review by authorities.
We hope the injured person makes a quick and full recovery.
Why Collisions Between Large Trucks Can Be Especially Dangerous
Crashes involving commercial trucks often lead to major roadway disruptions. Large vehicles such as semis and log trucks carry heavy loads, and when they collide, the force can cause rollovers or cargo spills.
Left-turn movements at highway intersections are a common point of conflict. When one vehicle crosses oncoming traffic, timing and visibility are critical. A miscalculation can result in a serious side-impact crash, especially when both vehicles are large and heavy.
Spilled cargo, such as logs or vehicles from a car hauler, can create additional hazards to other drivers. Road closures and extended cleanup efforts are common in these situations. Drivers sharing the road with commercial trucks should remain patient and alert, particularly near intersections and highway exits.
