Horizon City, TX (June 1, 2026) – A head-on collision left one person in critical condition late Sunday night, May 31, on the 15000 block of Horizon Boulevard. The accident was reported at approximately 10 p.m.
One of the drivers was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, since both speed and alcohol are believed to have been factors in the wreck.
The seriously hurt person was taken to a hospital following the crash. No names or ages were included in the initial report on the collision.
North and southbound lanes of Horizon Blvd were closed following the accident, and drivers in the area were asked to seek alternate routes. Emergency units were visible at the scene as the road closure remained in effect.
The investigation is active, with special traffic investigators continuing to examine the circumstances of the crash. We are keeping the person in critical care in our thoughts and hoping for a full recovery.
What Drivers Should Know About DWI Head-On Crashes in Texas
Head-on crashes are among the deadliest types of road accidents, and the risk multiplies significantly when a driver is impaired. Alcohol slows reaction time and affects a driver’s ability to stay in their lane, making wrong-way or cross-centerline collisions more likely. When speed is also a factor, the force of a head-on impact is dramatically greater, often leading to life-threatening outcomes.
In Texas, driving while intoxicated is a criminal offense, and when it results in serious injury, the charge can escalate to intoxication assault: a felony under state law. A driver taken into custody at the scene may face field sobriety testing, blood draws, and a formal booking process. The results of those tests typically take time to process and become part of the official record once the investigation concludes.
