Why E-Scooter Crashes Tend to Lead to Injuries
E-scooter riders have limited physical protection when traveling near larger vehicles, which can increase the risk of injury in a collision. Even at moderate speeds, riders may be thrown from the scooter or fall directly onto the pavement after contact.
Busy intersections can create additional challenges because drivers, cyclists, and scooter riders may all be moving through the same roadway space at once. Visibility, turning movements, and traffic signal timing are often reviewed after these crashes. Investigators also commonly examine lane positioning and roadway conditions to better understand how the collision occurred and whether either party had enough time to react.
