Anaheim, CA (July 23, 2026) — An early morning car collision on eastbound SR-91 near Imperial Highway resulted in minor injuries on Wednesday, July 22.

California Highway Patrol dispatch records show the crash was reported at about 2:24 a.m. Two vehicles were initially found on the right shoulder, and a Toyota Camry later partially blocked the right travel lane.

Dispatch notes identified a red Honda Civic and a dark Toyota Camry among the vehicles involved. A report from the scene indicated that a dark-colored sedan had been traveling at high speed before the collision, but the available information does not establish whether speed caused the crash.

Two vehicles required towing. The circumstances leading to the collision remain under investigation.

We hope those injured recover fully.

Where the Collision Happened: Eastbound SR-91 Near Imperial Hwy

SR-91 is a major east-west route carrying traffic through northern Orange County. The area near Imperial Highway includes entrance and exit movements that bring together through traffic and vehicles joining or leaving the highway.

During overnight hours, lighter traffic may allow vehicles to travel with greater separation and at different speeds. A disabled vehicle extending from the shoulder into a travel lane can create an additional hazard for approaching motorists.

What We Know

  • The collision was reported shortly after 2:20 a.m.
  • Two vehicles were involved.
  • The incident was classified as a minor-injury crash.
  • A Toyota Camry partially blocked the right lane.
  • A red Honda Civic was also identified in the dispatch record.
  • Two tow trucks were requested.

Why Speed Differences Matter on State Routes

Vehicles traveling at significantly different speeds can reduce the time available for drivers to recognize a hazard and respond. That concern becomes more pronounced on a route such as SR-91, where traffic may be moving quickly even during early morning hours.

Investigators will need to compare the report of high-speed travel with vehicle damage, roadway evidence, and the sequence of movements before determining whether it contributed to this collision. The dispatch log alone does not establish responsibility.

How This Crash Is Investigated

CHP investigators may review tire marks, debris, vehicle damage, and the locations where the vehicles stopped. Those details can help estimate their paths and determine how the initial contact occurred.

Statements from the drivers and witnesses may also be compared with the physical evidence. Investigators may consider the reported pre-crash speed, but any finding about cause must come from the completed review rather than the preliminary dispatch notes.

What to Do After a Collision

People involved in a California highway collision should preserve medical documents, photographs, repair estimates, towing records, and insurance correspondence. Early dispatch information may be incomplete, while the finished collision report may provide a more detailed account of the investigating officer’s findings.

For crashes investigated by the California Highway Patrol, reports are available through the CHP Crash Portal or through a CHP 190 request submitted by mail or in person. The collision report form is CHP 555, and CHP 190 is the request form.

The online portal fee is $22. Mail and in-person requests cost $10 per 25 pages through CHP. Reports are available after the officer files them, and the portal shows when a report is ready.

Under Vehicle Code § 20012, eligible parties of interest include drivers, passengers, vehicle or property owners, parents or guardians, and legal or insurance representatives. California collision reports are not public records and remain restricted to parties of interest, with no fixed public-release window.
