Commerce City, CO (July 23, 2026) – A motorcyclist lost their life after reportedly traveling in the wrong direction before being struck by a car near Colorado Blvd and E. 52nd Ave.

The fatal collision happened at about 1:20 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22. According to preliminary information, the motorcycle was allegedly traveling the wrong way when it entered the path of a passenger vehicle. The rider died as a result of the crash.

The driver of the car remained at the site and is cooperating with investigators. The ramp in the 5300 block of Colorado Blvd was closed for several hours while emergency units worked and traffic investigators examined the roadway. Motorists were encouraged to avoid the area until the closure was lifted.

The identity of the motorcyclist has not yet been released; however, investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances that led to the fatal collision, and additional details may be released as more information becomes available.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends mourning this loss.

Why Are Wrong-Way Motorcycle Crashes Usually So Severe?

Wrong-way motorcycle crashes are among the most dangerous traffic incidents because they usually involve head-on contact between vehicles traveling in opposite directions. These collisions usually happen at higher combined speeds, leaving riders with little time or space to avoid another vehicle. Unlike occupants of passenger cars, motorcyclists have very little physical protection, which greatly increases the risk of fatal or life-changing harm.

Roadway lighting, visibility, driver awareness, and proper traffic signs can all influence how quickly a wrong-way vehicle is recognized. After these types of crashes, investigators commonly review roadway evidence, vehicle positions, witness statements, and any available surveillance or dash camera footage to better determine how the sequence of events unfolded.
