Brandywine, MD (June 6, 2026) – A head-on collision between a tractor-trailer and a car on Crain Highway caused serious delays early Friday morning.
The crash happened near Dyson Road in Brandywine around 3:30 a.m. on June 5. Emergency units arrived shortly after the report, finding both drivers hurt. The drivers were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Traffic on all southbound lanes and two northbound lanes was blocked for several hours following the collision. The identities of those involved have not been released. The cause of the collision is still being examined.

How Head-On Collisions Occur on Highways
Head-on collisions typically happen when one vehicle crosses into the path of another, usually due to distraction, drowsiness, or losing control on curves or slippery surfaces. Vehicles traveling at high speeds can make these crashes especially dangerous, as the force involved increases the likelihood of injury.
Large vehicles like tractor-trailers add complexity because of their size and weight. Even minor steering errors can lead to serious collisions. Emergency planning on highways, such as lane separation and clear signage, aims to reduce these risks. Rapid medical evaluation is frequently required after such crashes because injuries can be severe, even if they are not immediately visible.
