East Granby, CT (March 13, 2026) – Several people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Thursday morning, March 12, involving a school transport van at the intersection of Rainbow Road (Route 20) and International Drive in East Granby.
Troopers responded shortly after 7:30 a.m., along with multiple EMS units and fire departments from East Granby, Air Guard, Windsor, Windsor Locks, and Suffield. Officials reported that two adults and one child were among those transported with suspected minor injuries.
Both vehicles involved were towed from the scene after wreckers were called. Authorities noted that traffic in the area was significantly affected by a malfunctioning traffic signal that had been flashing and not cycling correctly for over an hour and a half before the crash.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
We wish a swift and full recovery for each of the victims involved in this accident.
How Traffic Signal Malfunctions Can Contribute to Accidents
Intersections with malfunctioning traffic signals can increase the risk of collisions. When lights are flashing or not cycling correctly, drivers may misjudge right-of-way or fail to anticipate other vehicles’ movements.
Accidents at intersections can involve multiple vehicles and, in cases with school transport vehicles, may also include children. Emergency responders often prioritize securing the scene, assessing injuries, and restoring traffic flow while investigating contributing factors such as signal failures, vehicle positions, and witness accounts.
