El Paso County, CO (January 30, 2026) – A deadly auto accident involving two vehicles claimed the lives of two men after a collision led to a vehicle fire at the intersection of Marksheffel Rd and North Carefree Cir.
The fatal incident occurred on January 28 and involved a 2010 Ford F150 and a 2021 Kia Telluride. Colorado State Patrol reports that the Ford was occupied by a 42-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.
Following the collision, the Ford F150 caught fire, which intensified the emergency response efforts. Authorities noted that the crash site was complicated further by malfunctioning traffic lights at the intersection during the time of the crash. Although early witness accounts suggest the Ford may have driven through a non-functioning red light, investigators have not confirmed any contributing factors at this time.
The occupants of the Kia Telluride reportedly did not sustain any injuries in the crash.
Southbound Marksheffel Rd was closed for an extended period as crews worked to clear the scene and the Colorado State Patrol’s Vehicular Crimes Unit conducted a full investigation. No estimated time of reopening was provided immediately, and officials encouraged motorists to check cotrip.org for ongoing updates.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the victims during this difficult time.
