What Should Pedestrians and Drivers Know About Pedestrian Accidents?

Pedestrians can face serious risks when crossing busy roadways, particularly outside designated crosswalks. Whenever possible, pedestrians should use marked crossings and remain alert to approaching traffic. Drivers should watch carefully for pedestrians near intersections, businesses, residential areas, and other locations where people may be crossing the road. Reducing speed can provide additional time to react to someone entering the roadway.

Limited visibility during nighttime hours can make pedestrians more difficult to see. Drivers should use appropriate headlights and remain attentive to people walking near or across the roadway. Both motorists and pedestrians can help prevent serious incidents by following traffic laws, staying aware of their surroundings, and exercising extra caution when crossing or traveling through busy areas.
