Why Older Pedestrians Can Face Added Risk After Being Hit
Older pedestrians may face greater harm after being struck because the body can be more vulnerable to trauma. Even a lower-speed roadway contact can lead to fractures, head injuries, or internal concerns that require quick medical checks.
Intersections can also be difficult places for people on foot. Drivers may be turning, watching traffic signals, or looking for gaps in traffic. At the same time, pedestrians may be moving through marked crossings, sidewalks, or nearby corners.
Medical teams usually evaluate breathing, head pain, balance, and possible broken bones after this type of roadway emergency. Some symptoms may appear later, which is why hospital care can be needed even when early details are limited.
