Columbus, OH (June 27, 2026) – A 79-year-old man died after being ejected from his vehicle during a crash on South High Street in south Columbus. The collision occurred at about 2:17 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, in the 3700 block of South High Street near Great Southern Court.

Investigators said Kenneth James, 79, was operating a 2023 Can-Am Ryker when a 2012 Cadillac SRX struck the rear of the three-wheeled vehicle, causing it to lose control. James was ejected during the crash and taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

No additional injuries were confirmed in the initial report. Deputies are still investigating the incident.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family of James.

What Is Commonly Reviewed After a Rear-End Crash Involving a Motorcycle or Three-Wheeled Vehicle?

After a rear-end collision involving a motorcycle or three-wheeled vehicle, investigators usually examine vehicle speeds, following distance, and the point of impact. Damage patterns, tire marks, and roadway conditions may help explain how the crash unfolded. Because motorcycles and similar vehicles offer less protection than passenger cars, riders can face a higher risk of being thrown from the vehicle during a collision.

Investigators may also review witness statements, nearby surveillance footage, and vehicle data when available. Mechanical condition, visibility, and traffic flow are sometimes evaluated as part of the overall review. These findings help create a clearer understanding of the events leading up to the crash and the factors that may have contributed to it.
