Eldridge, MO (March 20, 2026) – Two people were seriously injured in a head-on crash Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Highway E and Highway D in Laclede County. Emergency units responded to the scene around 3:30 p.m. following reports of a two-vehicle collision.
Authorities say a 2008 GMC Acadia failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with an oncoming 2000 Chevrolet S10. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles. A 16-year-old girl from Eldridge, who was driving the Chevrolet, and a 27-year-old man from Camdenton, who was driving the GMC, were both hurt in the crash.
The teen was taken to a hospital in Springfield, while the man was transported to a hospital in the region for treatment. Their current conditions have not been released.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as they become available. Our thoughts are with those injured as they receive medical care.
Why Stop Sign Violations Can Lead to Head-On Collisions
Failing to stop at a stop sign can quickly lead to dangerous crashes, especially at rural intersections. Drivers who enter a roadway without yielding may collide with vehicles traveling at full speed, increasing the impact force. Head-on crashes are among the most severe types of collisions because both vehicles often absorb the full impact energy.
Visibility, road layout, and driver attention all affect how safely intersections are approached. Even a brief lapse in judgment can result in serious injuries. Seat belts and proper vehicle safety features can help reduce harm, but preventing these crashes often depends on drivers obeying traffic controls and slowing down before entering intersections.
