Elkhart County, IN (January 26, 2026) – A tragic collision on Sunday night in Elkhart County claimed the life of a 17-year-old passenger after a minivan lost control and slid into the path of a semi-truck.
The crash happened on January 25 at approximately 9:45 p.m. along State Road 13, just south of County Road 38. According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, the minivan was traveling during poor weather conditions when it lost traction and veered into the path of a southbound semi.
JayDee Miller, a 17-year-old from Elkhart riding as a passenger in the van, was killed in the impact. The driver of the minivan, also 17, suffered a minor head injury and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured in the crash.
Investigators have not released further information on whether road conditions or speed were contributing factors, but weather was cited as a concern during the time of the collision.
