How Visibility Conditions Affect Intersection Safety
Poor visibility can increase the risk of crashes, especially at intersections where drivers must judge the speed and distance of oncoming vehicles. Darkness, weather, and road design can all make it harder to see clearly.
When drivers cannot see well, they may misjudge gaps in traffic or fail to notice approaching vehicles. This can lead to collisions when turning or entering a roadway. Headlights help improve visibility, but they do not eliminate all hazards.
Drivers can reduce risk by slowing down and approaching intersections with caution when visibility is limited. Staying alert and allowing extra time to react can help prevent crashes.
