How Vehicle Pursuits Can Lead to Injury Crashes
Vehicle pursuits can create dangerous conditions for everyone involved. Sudden acceleration, sharp turns, and attempts to avoid capture increase the risk of collisions. These situations often unfold quickly, leaving little time to react.
Crashes during pursuits may involve multiple vehicles and roadside objects. Drivers may lose control, strike barriers, or collide with nearby vehicles. Officers are also at risk when approaching or attempting to stop a fleeing vehicle.
Environmental factors, including narrow roads and obstacles, can make pursuits more hazardous. Efforts to stop a fleeing vehicle safely often require careful coordination to reduce the risk of injury.
