Muskingum County, OH (May 30, 2026) – According to the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol, troopers were dispatched around noon on Friday, May 29, after reports of an aircraft down in a field. Two people suffered serious injuries.
The crash happened near Spease Road north of SR16 in Muskingum County. Investigators said 76-year-old John Graham of Adams Mill was operating a Boeing E75 Stearman with 69-year-old Debra Graham as a passenger when the plane went down.
Preliminary findings indicate the aircraft experienced engine failure before crashing into the field. John Graham was taken to Genesis Hospital with serious injuries, while Debra Graham was airlifted to OSU Medical Center in Columbus for treatment.
Federal aviation investigators also responded to the crash site as crews secured the surrounding area. No additional details about the aircraft’s condition before the crash have been released. We extend our thoughts to the injured and wish them a swift recovery.
What Investigators Review After Suspected Engine Failure Crashes
When a plane crash may involve engine failure, investigators often begin by examining mechanical components from the aircraft’s power system. Fuel delivery, propeller function, and maintenance history can provide important information about how the engine was operating before the aircraft went down.
Flight path data and witness observations are also reviewed to determine how the pilot attempted to respond after losing power. In some cases, investigators analyze debris patterns and ground marks to understand the aircraft’s final movements before contact with the ground.
Older aircraft may require detailed mechanical inspections because wear, maintenance conditions, or part failures can affect performance. Federal aviation investigators typically spend significant time documenting evidence before issuing preliminary findings about the cause of the crash.
