Why Red-Light Intersection Crashes Can Involve Multiple People
Crashes caused by red-light violations can become especially dangerous at busy intersections where vehicles, pedestrians, and turning traffic move through the same space. Drivers entering an intersection unexpectedly may leave others with little time to react.
Downtown intersections often include crosswalks, multiple lanes, and heavy evening traffic, increasing the likelihood that several people could be affected during a collision. Secondary movement after the first impact can also place nearby pedestrians at risk.
Investigators commonly review traffic signal timing, surveillance footage, and witness statements to determine how vehicles entered the intersection. Vehicle speeds and points of contact may also help explain how injuries occurred and why multiple people became involved in the roadway crash.
