Fairfax Co., VA (March 16, 2026) – Four people lost their lives, and several others were injured in two separate crashes that occurred on Saturday morning in Fairfax County, according to authorities.

Officers with the Fairfax County Police Department responded to the first crash around 3:18 a.m. at the intersection of Fox Mill Road and Folkstone Drive in Reston, Virginia.

Investigators said a vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree, and burst into flames. The driver, 25-year-old Kevin Josue Rodriguez-Lopez of Herndon, Virginia, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers in the vehicle, identified as 21-year-old Aylin Gil Deleon of Fairfax, Virginia, and a 16-year-old juvenile, also died at the scene. Two additional passengers, both adult women, were transported to a nearby hospital, including one who suffered life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary findings indicate that speed and alcohol may have contributed to the crash.

Later that same morning, officers responded to another collision at the intersection of Mount Vernon Memorial Highway and Grist Mills Woods Way in Mount Vernon, Virginia.

Authorities said a vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck another vehicle. A 79-year-old man from Alexandria, Virginia, identified as David Owens, died as a result of the crash.

The driver of the second vehicle involved in that collision sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

According to investigators, speed and alcohol do not appear to have played a role in the Mount Vernon crash. Detectives are reviewing whether a possible medical emergency may have contributed to the incident.

We extend our best wishes for a full recovery to those injured in the crash.
