Pecos, TX (July 21, 2026) – Traffic was diverted after a fatal crash closed the westbound lanes of Interstate 20 near mile marker 53 outside Pecos on Sunday.
Witnesses told First Alert 7 that the roadway was shut down following the crash, with westbound traffic detoured through Barstow. The closure remained in effect as crews worked in the area.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said the fatal crash is under investigation and confirmed that a media statement with additional information will be released soon. No details about the people involved or the circumstances leading up to the collision had been made public at the time of publication.
