Why Interstate Crashes Near State Lines Often Cause Major Delays
Crashes on busy interstate corridors can quickly create large traffic backups, especially near state lines where traffic volume is already high. When lanes are blocked, vehicles may be forced into reduced capacity, leading to extended delays.
Investigators typically review traffic speed, lane usage, and vehicle positioning when reconstructing interstate crashes. Even when details are limited, debris patterns and roadway markings can help establish how the collision occurred.
Lane closures may last for hours, depending on the severity of the crash and the amount of cleanup required. Once lanes reopen, congestion often continues until traffic flow gradually returns to normal.
