What Is Typically Reviewed After a Fatal Freeway Crash?
Fatal freeway crashes usually require a detailed examination of several factors before investigators can determine exactly what occurred. This process may include documenting vehicle positions, examining roadway markings, reviewing available traffic camera footage, and interviewing witnesses who may have seen the moments leading up to the crash.
Investigators may also inspect weather, lighting, and road surface conditions to determine whether environmental factors contributed. Mechanical inspections can reveal whether equipment failures played a part, while medical examinations may help clarify the cause of death. In many cases, collecting and reviewing this information takes time, particularly when multiple sources of evidence must be analyzed before findings can be confirmed.
