How Hit-and-Run Crashes Are Investigated
Hit-and-run crashes may require investigators to collect information from multiple sources because the driver or vehicle involved may no longer be at the scene. Evidence such as vehicle parts, roadway marks, surveillance footage, and witness accounts can help provide details about what happened.
Investigators may also examine the area around the crash site to determine the direction of travel and other circumstances surrounding the incident. These reviews can take time as officials work to identify the vehicle involved and gather accurate information.
