Hampshire, IL (July 7, 2026) – A fatal hit-and-run investigation began early on Monday morning, July 6, around 12:40 a.m. after a woman was found dead in the roadway on US 20 north of Big Timber Road.
Officers arrived and found a female victim in the street who was pronounced deceased. Police said a suspected vehicle involved in the crash left the scene. US 20 was closed in both directions between Big Timber Road and Higgins Road while crews investigated the incident.
The incident remains under review by the police. We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased woman.
