Union County, OH (June 27, 2026) – The police are investigating a fatal accident that killed a woman and injured another person.

The accident was a multi-vehicle crash involving a tow truck on Thursday afternoon, June 25, at the intersection of State Route 4 and Kaiser Road in Union County. Deputies responded to the crash shortly before 4 p.m. and found a 2015 Peterbilt tow truck operated by Kirby’s Towing off the roadway near a wooded area.

Investigators said a 2017 Jeep Compass had stopped in the southbound lanes of SR 4 while waiting to turn left onto Kaiser Road when the tow truck failed to stop and struck the Jeep. The tow truck then crossed the center line and collided with a 2020 Ford F-150 and a 2011 Acura TL traveling northbound.

The 63-year-old woman driving the Acura was pronounced dead at the scene. The tow truck driver was taken to a hospital with injuries. The drivers of the Jeep and Ford were not hurt in the collision.

Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the deceased.

What Is Commonly Reviewed After a Multi-Vehicle Crash Involving a Tow Truck?

When a tow truck is involved in a multi-vehicle collision, investigators typically examine the sequence of impacts, vehicle speeds, and the movements of each vehicle before the crash. Damage patterns, skid marks, and the final resting positions of the vehicles can help explain how the collision developed.

Investigators may also review roadway conditions, visibility, traffic flow, and whether any mechanical issues contributed to the incident. Commercial vehicles are often subject to additional inspections, including checks of braking systems and maintenance records. Witness statements, available video footage, and physical evidence from the scene may also help establish the timeline. Together, these findings provide a clearer understanding of the circumstances surrounding the crash.
