Frequently Asked Questions
Why do multi-vehicle crashes happen?
They usually start when one driver brakes suddenly or loses control, giving following vehicles too little time or space to stop, which pulls additional cars into the collision.
How can drivers avoid getting caught in a chain-reaction crash?
Keeping a safe following distance, slowing down in heavy traffic, and staying alert for brake lights ahead can give drivers more time to react before a pileup develops.
What should I do if I come upon a crash scene on the road?
Remember to slow down well before reaching the scene, follow any instructions from police or emergency crews, and avoid stopping in a travel lane unless it's necessary for safety.
Does poor visibility play a role in these crashes?
Low light, fog or rain can shrink the distance drivers have to see and react to traffic ahead, which can make multi-vehicle collisions more likely.
