Stafford, VA (June 19, 2026) – Five people lost their lives, and several others were injured in a chain-reaction collision involving a passenger bus and multiple vehicles on I-95 in Stafford.
According to federal investigators, the wreck occurred when a motorcoach traveling on the interstate entered an overnight work zone and struck stopped traffic. The initial impact triggered a series of collisions involving 10 vehicles.
Five people were killed in the crash, including four occupants of an SUV that caught fire after being struck. Several other people were hurt, with injuries ranging from minor to serious. Authorities have not released additional details regarding all of those injured.
Detectives are reviewing evidence to determine why the bus failed to slow down before reaching the line of stopped vehicles. The findings may help identify whether additional safety measures are needed to reduce the risk of similar collisions in the future. The investigation into the deadly collision remains active as officials continue to gather and analyze information.
