Escambia County, FL (September 8, 2026) – Five people were seriously injured on Monday morning in a head-on collision on Highway 97 south of Walnut Hill.
The collision happened around 5 a.m., about half a mile south of Howell Road. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Nissan Rogue driven by a 23-year-old McDavid man was traveling north when it crossed the centerline and struck a southbound GMC Sierra.
The pickup had four occupants, including its 37-year-old driver, an adult female passenger, and two girls ages 3 and 6. Both adults and the 3-year-old were airlifted to Pensacola hospitals as trauma alerts.
The Nissan driver and the 6-year-old girl were also taken to a hospital. Highway 97 south of Walnut Hill was closed for several hours while the wreck was cleared.
