Fort Worth, TX (May 6, 2026) – A Dallas County transport van carrying inmates was rear-ended on Tuesday morning on eastbound I-30 near Eastchase Parkway, leaving five people hospitalized.

The crash occurred just after 7 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5. The van was transporting inmates to the Dallas County Jail when another vehicle struck it from behind. Emergency units responded to the scene, which was fully cleared by 8:40 a.m.

Four of the five inmates were treated and released, then booked into the jail as originally planned. A fifth inmate remained hospitalized, though not due to crash-related injuries; authorities noted the continued stay was for evaluation of a pre-existing medical condition.

The cause of the rear-end collision is still under review by authorities. Our thoughts are with those affected as they continue to recover.

What Typically Happens After a Transport Vehicle Crash in Texas?

When a government transport vehicle is involved in a crash in Texas, the response often involves multiple agencies working together to manage both the scene and the people being transported. Because these vehicles transport individuals in custody, safety protocols require secure handling in addition to standard medical care.

Rear-end crashes on busy Texas interstates like I-30 are not uncommon, particularly during morning rush hours when traffic builds quickly. Even at relatively low speeds, the impact can cause strain or soft-tissue injuries, which is why occupants are typically evaluated at a hospital even when damage appears minor.

In cases involving transport vans, officials also have to account for the status of each person being transported, including where they were heading and whether any medical needs complicate that process. These extra steps can prolong the time a case remains under review.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
