Frequently Asked Questions
Does a vehicle's speed affect a pedestrian's chance of survival?
Yes. The faster a vehicle is traveling at the moment of impact, the less likely a pedestrian is to survive, and the more severe the injuries tend to be even in crashes they do survive.
Where do pedestrian crashes usually happen?
Many pedestrian crashes occur on busy roads and freeways, especially where people cross outside marked crosswalks or where lighting is poor.
Are pedestrians hit more commonly at night?
Yes, low light and reduced visibility make nighttime and early morning hours higher-risk times for pedestrians crossing roads and highways.
