Two of the people involved declined medical treatment after receiving minor injuries. A third pedestrian with minor injuries was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The fourth person was also taken to the same hospital with more serious injuries and is expected to survive.
The driver had not been located as of Saturday afternoon, and no identifying information had been released.
Detectives continue to work to identify and locate the driver involved in the collision. We are keeping the injured pedestrians in our thoughts and wish them a full recovery.
Why Are Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Crashes Especially Challenging to Investigate?
Pedestrian hit-and-run crashes often require investigators to piece together information from multiple sources. Since the driver leaves before providing information, evidence such as surveillance footage, witness accounts, vehicle debris, and roadway markings can become key parts of the investigation.
Urban entertainment districts and downtown corridors may have cameras that help track a vehicle’s movements before and after a crash. Even so, identifying a driver can take time, particularly when only a general vehicle description is available. Injured pedestrians may also be unable to provide immediate details if they require medical attention. Investigators frequently review available video, examine physical evidence, and compare vehicle characteristics to narrow down potential matches. These efforts can help establish what occurred and identify the person responsible for leaving the scene.
