Franklin, IN (January 28, 2026) – A serious crash involving a semi-truck led to the shutdown of I-65 southbound just two miles south of Franklin on January 27. The accident resulted in at least one reported injury and caused major traffic disruption during the evening commute.
The Indiana Department of Transportation reported the closure around 4:45 p.m., confirming that traffic was being rerouted onto State Road 44 while crews worked to clear the wreckage. Photos from the scene showed a severely damaged semi cab and a long debris field trailing behind the vehicle.
Indiana State Police confirmed at least one person was hurt, though details about the number of individuals involved and the extent of injuries have not yet been disclosed. The crash occurred near mile marker 86 in Johnson County, and investigators remained on-site for several hours.
The interstate was fully reopened around 9:30 p.m., nearly five hours after the initial closure. Officials noted that freezing conditions across central Indiana contributed to slick roads, likely affecting driving conditions at the time of the crash.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the collision.
We send our thoughts to those injured and hope for a full and speedy recovery.
