Frequently Asked Questions
How does speed play into whether someone survives being hit by a vehicle?
Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force of impact, which raises the chance of severe or fatal injury for a pedestrian struck in the roadway.
Why does seat belt use matter in crashes like this one?
Seat belts protect the occupants of vehicles involved in a crash, though in this case the people struck were on foot. For drivers and passengers, belts remain one of the most effective ways to prevent being thrown inside or out of the vehicle on impact.
What should a family do after learning a loved one died in a crash like this?
Families can request the official crash report from the investigating agency, ask about the timeline for any findings, and reach out to the medical examiner's office for information on next steps.
How do authorities investigate a fatal crash involving multiple vehicles?
Investigators typically examine the scene, interview witnesses and drivers, review any available video, and reconstruct the sequence of impacts to determine how the collision unfolded.
What to Do After a Pedestrian Crash in Fremont, Nebraska
If you witness or are involved in a crash where someone on foot is struck, call 911 immediately and avoid moving the injured person unless there's immediate danger. Stay at the scene until law enforcement arrives and give a clear, honest account of what you saw. Anyone involved, even if seemingly unhurt, should get checked by a medical professional, since injuries from an impact aren't always immediately obvious. Keep a record of any police report numbers and officer names for your files. Witnesses can also contact the investigating agency later if they recall additional details that might help the inquiry.
